Styling Guide
The famous "What should I wear?" question! I have created this guide to help you feel more comfortable and confident with your outfits for our session! This will also alleviate some of that stress because - yes mamas are mostly the ones that are reading this! I get it!! Finding outfits for the whole family can be stressful and downright overwhelming! I want your family photoshoot to be a memorable & enjoyable experience! Here are some tips to help you prepare for your session!
Styling the Family
- Coordinate, Don't Match: Choose a color palette with complementary tones rather than identical outfits. This creates visual interest without being too uniform.
- Comfort is Key: Opt for clothing that your family feels comfortable and confident in. Avoid overly stiff or formal attire unless it suits your family's style.
- Timeless vs. Trendy: While trendy clothing can be fun, consider timeless pieces that will look great in photos for years to come.
- Consider the Location: Choose outfits that complement the backdrop of your chosen location. For outdoor shoots, natural tones often work well.
- Avoid Logos and Busy Patterns: Large logos and busy patterns can distract from the focus of the photos—your family! Opt for subtle patterns or solid colors instead.
- Grooming and Hair: Ensure everyone is groomed and hair is styled neatly. Natural makeup enhances facial features without being too heavy.
- Be Weather-Ready: Check the weather forecast and dress accordingly. Layers can help you adjust if temperatures change during the shoot.
- Shoes Matter or Don't Matter: Coordinate footwear that complements your outfits and is suitable for the location. Avoid sneakers if going for a formal look. If you love the playful look of no shoes like me, add a little polish to freshen up!
- Be Yourselves: Most importantly, let your family's personality shine through! The best photos capture genuine moments and emotions.
Kid Smart Choices
- Comfort is Key: Choose clothing that your child feels comfortable in to ensure they can move freely and feel at ease during the session.
- Bring Props: Encourage your child to bring along a favorite toy or item that reflects their personality, adding a personal touch to the photos.
- Stay Positive and Relaxed: Help your child stay relaxed by maintaining a positive attitude throughout the shoot, allowing natural smiles and expressions to shine through.
Adults Do's & Dont's
Do's
